Overhang Requirements:

Maximum legal overhang allowed is 3' (three feet) front and 4' (four feet) rear . Overhang exceeding these dimensions will require over-length permits

Police Escorts:

No police escort is required for Arkansas for standard OS/OW loads. Highway Patrol escorts May be necessary for some superloads, decision determined upon review of load by D.O.T.

Permits Valid For:

Single Trip permits are valid for three (3) days.

Operating Time

Permits will normally be issued for movement during daylight hours only as established by the U.S. Weather Bureau.  Permits may be issued for the movement of overweight vehicles on Arkansas highways on holidays and night time when all dimensions are legal.  Loads not exceeding 90' long may travel twenty-four (24) Hours a day, seven (7) days a week.  Loads that are overweight only may travel twenty-four (24) hours a day, seven (7) days a week.

Weekend Travel

Permits may be issued for movement of over dimensional loads on Arkansas highways on Saturday and Sunday unless a Holiday weekend.  Mobile homes are prohibited from moving on Sundays.

Divisible Loads

Permits will not be issued for the movement of any vehicle or piece of equipment which in the opinion of the State Highway Commission can reasonably be reduced and/or dismantled in size and/or weight to come within the legal limits.

Exceptions

Cutter blades and other equipment of a hazardous nature in excess of 14' wide will be cradled to such an angle as is necessary to reduce the maximum overall width to 14' wide.

Restricted Travel

Movement is prohibited during inclement weather when in the opinion of the issuing agency conditions prevail which would make the movement unsafe.

Secondary highways are restricted to (40 mph) and may be posted for a lesser weight.

No oversize movement through the great Little Rock area from 7:00 - 9:00 A.M. and 4:00 - 6:00 P.M. on Interstate 30 - M.M. 137-143, Interstate 40 M-M, 151-155 and all of Interstate 630.

Superload Requirements

Loads or vehicles that are 120' long x 14' wide x 16' high and 180,000 lbs. or more are considered Super-loads.  If load exceeds 17' high it must be escorted by public utilities personnel.  Applications for permits to move extra heavy loads of any sort will be submitted in triplicate along with a detailed sketch of vehicles including tire size, distance between axles and overall length of the vehicle.  This application should be submitted at least two (2) days in advance of the expected movement.
